How to insert a division sign in Word

I often get asked how can you insert the division sign in Word. Here are the steps:
Word 2007
  1. Click on the Insert tab on the Ribbon
  2. Click on the Symbol button
  3. Click on the Division symbol (or click on More Symbols if it is not there)
  4. The Division symbol will now appear on the page


Word 2003
  1. Go to Insert - Symbol
  2. In the Font box scroll down until you see the font name Symbol
  3. Look for the Division sign
  4. Click on the Division symbol
  5. The Division symbol will now appear on the page
Mac Users go to 'Schools and Macs' blog

If you want to use this symbol frequently then you can assign a shortcut key.

Assign a Shortcut Key
Word 2007 - Click on Insert tab, and then on Symbol button
Word 2003 - Go to Insert - Symbol
  1. Click on More Symbols
  2. Click on Division sign
  3. Click on Shortcut Key button
  4. Press a new shortcut key combination (I use Ctrl/)
  5. Click Assign and Close
